PhD position in optical spectroscopy of semiconductor nanostructures. New group is being established at University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) Department of Physics/Nanotech Institute that deals with ultrafast spectroscopy of semiconductor nanostructures such as quantum dots (QDs) and quantum wires (QWRs). More information about UTD can be found at www.nanotech.utdallas.edu and www.utdallas.edu/physics. Quantum nanostructures are very promising candidates for many applications, such as efficient solar cells, low-threshold lasers and amplifiers, quantum computing and information and many more. The research directions include ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy using amplified femtosecond Ti:sapphire system, optical characterization of single nanostructures by means of microphotoluminescence (uPL) spectroscopy and biophotonics with colloidal QDs.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated PhD student to join this newly formed group. Candidate should be of high academic standing with GPA 3.5 and above (based on 4.0 scale), with Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Hands-on laboratory experience in experimental optics, instrumentation development, optical spectroscopy and/or chemical physics is highly desirable. International candidates should be proficient in English language. Candidates with especially high academic achievements (GPA 3.9 and above) may be considered for UTD president’s fellowship, totaling $25,000/year for 3 years.
Collaborations with leading research groups in quantum nanoscience field are projected. Candidate is expected to visit and conduct joint research with leading experts at Los Alamos National Laboratory/Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (www.quantumdot.lanl.gov).
Interested candidates should send CV and at least two reference letters by email to: Dr. Anton V. Malko, anton.malko@utdallas.edu
